Contact: Luther Gerlach
Date: 9/23/2018 - 9/29/18
Luther Gerlach has been working in the wet plate process for over twenty years and leading lectures and demonstrations in various historical photographic processes at the J Paul Getty Museum since 2001.
This 5-day wet plate collodion workshop is designed for both beginning and advanced wet plate photographers. Beginning participants will be immersed in a learning environment designed to give them the confidence to continue working and developing skills on their own in this extraordinary medium. More advanced participants benefit from having all of the darkroom equipment and chemicals needed for wet plate processes at their disposal, thus eliminating the challenges of sourcing chemistry, transporting darkroom equipment, and all the logistical problems of travel with darkrooms in a foreign country. For advanced participants, the wet plate workshop is designed to outfit all their wet plate needs. Participants will have the opportunity to photograph in one of the most beautiful and well-preserved hilltop villages in Italy, and travel to remarkable, out-of-the-way sites seldom seen by visitors. This is an opportunity to combine travel and wet plate.
